Clive Hopewell, head of International Capital Markets at Bird & Bird, has once again shared his insights in the latest LexisNexis’ Trends in UK Equity Capital Markets in 2024 report. Commenting on the performance of the LSE Main Market, Clive said, “The success of the Raspberry Pi IPO was a great boost to the UK tech sector and, particularly with the uncertainty being caused to the US markets, we would expect more domestic tech companies to think more carefully about London before assuming Nasdaq is the Holy Grail.”
Commenting on the perceived draw of the US markets, Clive refers to some examples of IPOs we have acted on recently and goes on to say that, “While the US markets have been attracting large tech listings both domestically and for overseas issuers, there would appear to be a gap for smaller US tech companies, which do not necessarily want to pursue the VC/PE route to capital raising and which may be too small for their domestic markets.
So long as there is an international angle to these companies which supports an overseas listing, the London markets can provide a successful platform for US companies seeking to raise capital and to raise their profile internationally among clients and investors.”
