Álvaro López de Ochoa García

I am an associate in our Competition & EU Law practice in Brussels, providing advice on EU and Spanish competition law.

My practice covers all aspects of competition law, including abuse of dominance, cartel investigations, merger control and State aid. As a member of the firm's Technology & Communications sector group, I also advise clients on gatekeeper obligations under the Digital Markets Act.

In addition, I occasionally assist clients in trade defence procedures.

From September 2023 to April 2025, I was Assistant Editor of World Competition, Law and Economics Journal (Wolters Kluwer), where I was responsible for the preliminary review of articles, coordination between authors and Editorial Board, and management of the final publication of the journal.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird in 2023, I worked for a top-tier Belgian law firm specialised in EU Competition and Trade Law in Brussels.
