Francesca Mari

I am an energy engineer and Italian patent attorney working in the Bird & Bird Intellectual Property department based in Milan, in particular assisting our Clients in the protection of inventions with patents or utility models.

I graduated in Energy Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano with an experimental thesis entitled '1D fluid dynamics simulation of a turbocharged Otto-cycle engine with e-Booster' and from 2020 I am qualified to practice as an Industrial Engineer.

In 2019, immediately after obtaining my Master's Degree, I started a Patent Attorney traineeship at Bird & Bird and I joined the team of professionals in the Patent Group, with whom I collaborate in the preparation and management of consultancy activities in patent matters.

In 2023, I obtained the professional qualification to practice as a patent attorney in Italy.

I have gained experience in drafting new Italian and European patent applications relating to engineering and in their national and international prosecution, in particular at the EPO and WIPO, and, through local agents in other countries. Furthermore, under the supervision of expert colleagues, I produce prior research searches, strategic advice on patentability and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis.

I have also been involved in opposition procedures before the European Patent Office and I had the chance to cooperate with colleagues (patent attorneys and lawyers) in patent litigations in the field of mechanics and medical devices.

My goal is to enhance and protect our Clients' ideas and innovative solutions in particular in engineering matters, with a focus on mechanical and optical devices, industrial technologies, machine tools, illuminating devices, medical devices, energy power plants and hydrogen technologies.
