Hui Leng Tan

I work as a senior patent attorney in Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property & Technology Group in Singapore, where I specialise in life sciences. I work with a broad range of clients, from local SMEs to foreign MNCs.

As a registered Singapore patent agent, I have considerable experience in patent prosecution, including the pre- and post-filing stages, in Singapore and internationally. I am also experienced in other aspects of patent related work, including 'freedom-to-operate' search and analysis, the preparation of third party observations, the preparation of infringement and validity opinions, patent due diligence, patent transaction recordals and advising on matters involving patent declarations related to therapeutic product licenses in Singapore. I am also actively involved in patent revocation and patent infringement matters, which include pharmaceutical and medical device related patents.

You'll find me listed in IAM Patents 2020, 2021 and 2022. I am also a member of the Examination Committee which sets and marks the papers for the Singapore Patent Agent Qualifying Examination, and a member of the Association of Singapore Patent Agents. Before joining Bird & Bird, I practised in a leading law firm and worked with a diverse array of clients both in Singapore and internationally.

• As a senior patent attorney, my work mainly focuses on patent protection, for example, advising clients on strategies to maximise their protection in the various countries. One way in which I do so is by working closely with our international colleagues and associates to better understand their laws and requirements in order to provide relevant advice.
