Latvia

Status

The Digital Services Act will be implement by amending the Law on Information Society Services, which is already in force. The draft law implementing Digital Services Act, called Amendments to the Law on Information Society Services, is going through the legislative process. The current version of the draft law has been approved by the executive body – the Cabinet of Ministers, and has been submitted for review to the Parliament. At the moment, the Parliament has approved the draft law in the first reading. In order to be fully adopted, the draft law must be approved by the Parliament in three readings and must be proclaimed by the President (not earlier than the tenth day and not later than the twenty-first day after the law has been approved by the Parliament). The president also has the right not to proclaim a draft law and send it back to the Parliament for additional review (in practice, this happens rarely).
