EU Data Act in Practice: Compliance strategies for connected devices & data processing

The European Data Act seeks to enhance the digital economy in the EU by expanding access to industrial data for businesses and consumers. It also aims to facilitate seamless transitions between services to spur competition in the cloud market.

The Act is designed to facilitate the process of switching between data processing service providers and entering into fair contracts. The Act has been directly applicable in Sweden since 12 September 2025 as an EU Regulation. However, Sweden has not adopted all necessary complementary national measures, such as designating competent authorities and establishing specific penalty frameworks.

In this in-person seminar, our Bird & Bird experts will cover the following topics:

  • Connected devices – access rights and data sharing obligations
  • Switching between data processing services
  • Contractual implications – revising terms and ensuring compliance with the Data Act

We will share our experiences with advising on the Data Act in smaller and bigger projects and also provide a practical checklist to help businesses comply with the Data Act.
