Bird & Bird's international Competition Group strengthens position through non-governmental advisor roles to competition and consumer authorities

International law firm Bird & Bird is pleased to announce that three partners hold prestigious Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) appointments within leading European competition and consumer authorities. These roles are a testament to the firm's commitment to shaping the future of competition law and further establishes Bird & Bird's leading position in the field.

In their roles, the partners identify new topics, launch new projects, and provide commentary on existing products or methods. They also influence public debate surrounding competition law by attending International Competition Network (ICN) conferences and workshops.

Recently, Pauline Kuipers, co-head of Bird & Bird’s International Competition Law Group, has been appointed as a Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) by the Netherlands’ Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), following a selective process. Pauline's extensive experience in competition law, coupled with her thorough understanding of the digital economy, sustainability transition, and energy markets has led to her inclusion among four distinguished appointees.

Moreover, Morten Nissen, co-head, and José Rivas, partner in the Competition group, also serve as Non-Governmental Advisors to the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority and the Spanish Competition Authority (CNMC), respectively.

This provides Bird & Bird with direct insight into the latest trends and changes in competition law from leading authorities, enabling our Competition Law group to guide clients more effectively through complex competition issues in an ever-changing business environment.

The appointments not only reflect the expertise and dedication of Bird & Bird's competition law team, but also the firm’s commitment to staying at the forefront of global competition law issues. As NGAs, the partners play a vital role within the International Competition Network (ICN), a global network of competition authorities that addresses practical enforcement and competition issues on an international scale.

Pauline Kuipers, Co-Head of Bird & Bird’s Competition Law Group, says "I am truly honoured to take on the role of Non-Governmental Advisor to the ACM. This appointment reflects not just on my individual commitment, but is a testament to the exceptional team we have at Bird & Bird and our dedication to excellence in competition law. The NGA appointments within our group will continue to make a positive impact on our work and elevate the level of service we provide to our clients."
