Based in Milan and a partner in our International Tax Group, I am currently leading the Italian tax practice and working alongside our talented tax consultants and lawyers to deliver tailored solutions to clients.
What I have learned in my nearly 30 years' experience working in international law firms, especially the Big Four, is that the law doesn't always work like a Swiss watch!
Inconsistencies and gaps of the tax and legal framework require practitioners to adapt quickly, understand the clients' needs and their industry environment, and be creative in order to provide them with effective inputs. Acting as a business partner - and not only as a mere tax practitioner - is what drives my work.
We advise our domestic and international clients on a broad range of corporate and indirect tax consultancy services, from domestic tax compliance fulfilments to complex cross-border group reorganisations and M&A transactions, from tax litigation to Transfer Pricing matters.
The capability to lead the tax team as part of cross-practice projects is my distinguish mark: with the Corporate lawyers, to execute M&A deals and group reorganisations; with the IP department, to assist clients of the Tech & Comms industry in their transition from license-based business models to subscription fees/SaaS models; with the Employment department, to develop incentive plans.
Within the tax department we have a strong record of different skills and backgrounds combined together to offer our clients a unique approach to complex matters: tax litigation lawyers and TP experts to manage both tax audits re. Transfer Pricing or permanent establishment issues and the related settlement procedures (including MAPs and APAs); corporate tax, VAT and Transfer Pricing practitioners working together with clients to plan and implement new supply chains or business models.
More recently, considering the additional complexities brought by BEPS, policy makers and regulators, we have worked with our consulting arm, OXYGY Consulting, to create new solutions like the Co-operative Compliance Program and the Tax Control Framework (TCF) aimed at helping our clients avoid unintentional non-compliance tax issues and connected reputational risks.
