Julia van der Veen

As an associate in our Commercial and Data Protection and Regulation Groups, I am involved in a broad range of matters relating to EU data regulation, commercial contracting and e-commerce.

I work with clients across diverse sectors, advising on existing and upcoming EU data regulations such as the GDPR, Data Act, DSA and the AI Act. On the Commercial side, I assist clients with commercial agreements, online sales and consumer protection. Working across both practice groups gives me a broad perspective and allows me to approach challenges in a cross-disciplinary manner, which is particularly valuable in areas where commercial and data protection considerations intersect.

I am particularly drawn to areas where the law has not yet fully adapted to technological developments. This intersection between law and technology requires creative thinking, and I enjoy finding pragmatic solutions that work within both legal frameworks and business realities.

Before joining Bird & Bird, I worked at other law firms, both international and national, where I gained experience in commercial and data protection matters. I also spent a year working in-house at a client, which gave me first-hand experience of how decision-making processes work within an organisation and the various considerations that influence business choices.
