Melanie Schain

As an associate in our Munich office, I advise and represent national and international clients in the field of intellectual property, with a particular focus on patent infringement proceedings before German national courts and the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

Since being admitted to the bar in 2023, I have gained valuable experience in patent litigation at a renowned IP boutique in Munich with a focus on Life Sciences. I further deepened my specialisation through my LL.M. studies at Queen Mary University of London and TU Dresden (international studies in intellectual property law and data law) in 2025. For my comparative law master's thesis, I examined the enforcement of second medical use claims, focusing on the (expected) developments before the UPC.

I completed my legal studies with a focus on intellectual property law at LMU Munich. During my legal traineeship (Referendariat) at the Higher Regional Court Munich, I worked at Bird & Bird, where I acquired additional expertise in the area of soft IP.
