Seiko Hidaka

I specialise in all aspects of IP law relating to science and technology, with a particular focus on complex patent disputes and strategic IP advice. I have been lucky enough to work on patent disputes concerning headline grabbing technologies such as standardised technologies, cleantech, platform technologies, defence and aerospace and life-sciences.

Many of these cases are cross-border, and I have had the fortune to assume patent infringement co-ordinating matters for international businesses both at the Global and European levels. Interacting with internal and external colleagues in several overseas offices, learning about the nature and timelines for procedural measures, and formulating an effective and cohesive cross-border litigation strategy that meet the client's objectives are the most intellectually stimulating aspects of my practice.

I chose to specialise in patent litigation, attracted to the opportunity to dive into the science behind the innovation with clients and experts who are the leaders in their own very specialised field. The spectrum of the products and technologies that I encounter is wide and can be obscure. I cherish the opportunity to use my interest in science and background in science.

Beyond litigation, as part of my work in the SEP space, I have supported SEP licensing negotiations acting for both Implementers dealing in different types of products and SEP Holders. I also carry out strategic IP consultancy work, such as advising on patent landscaping, freedom to operate assessments, licence scoping, infringement take down campaigns on eCommerce sites and development and implementation of robust IP policies.
