The Civil Collective Proceedings Act

From 1 July 2024, new rules on collective redress apply in the Czech Republic.

  • These allow groups of consumers and micro enterprises to jointly pursue similar claims against a single business that would not be worth pursuing individually.
  • Easier enforcement of collective claims is also intended to prevent unlawful conduct by entrepreneurs.
  • A specialised non-profit organisation representing consumers or micro enterprises can bring a collective action.
  • Consumers (or micro enterprises) do not participate in the collective proceedings themselves, nor do they bear the costs of the proceedings.
