Prof. Dr. Eleonora Rosati

I am an Of Counsel in the IP team, and work between Milan and London on copyright and trade mark issues. I am also a law academic and have authored hundreds of articles on IP issues, including multiple scholarly articles and books on EU IP law.

Besides being an Italian-qualified lawyer (avvocato), I am Full Professor of IP Law at Stockholm University (Sweden), Visiting Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portugal), Guest Professor at CEIPI-Université de Strasbourg (France), Guest Faculty at Glion Institute of Higher Education (Switzerland), Research Associate at LegalEdhec at EDHEC Business School (France), and Associate of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).

I am Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (Oxford University Press), and have written extensively in the IP field.

I am the author of Originality in EU Copyright (Edward Elgar, 2013), Copyright in the Digital Single Market. Article-by-Article Commentary to the Provisions of Directive 2019/790 (Oxford University Press, 2021), and Copyright and the Court of Justice of the European Union (Oxford University Press, 2023; 2nd edn). I am also the editor of The Routledge Handbook of EU Copyright Law (Routledge, 2021) and co-editor of Developments and Directions in IP Law. Twenty Years of The IPKat (Oxford University Press, 2023).

I regularly comment on IP issues for well-known blog The IPKat, for which I have authored several hundreds of posts over the past several years.

I have prepared technical briefings and studies and delivered talks at the request of international organizations and EU institutions and agencies (including inter alia WIPO, European Parliament, European Commission, and EUIPO), as well as international professional bodies and organizations (including ALAI, INTA, AIPPI, LIDC, and ECTA) and national governments.

I have been the recipient of accolades and prizes for my work in the IP field: in 2018, Managing Intellectual Property included me among the '50 Most Influential People in IP' globally; in 2020, World Intellectual Property Review listed me among its 'Influential Women in IP'; in 2022, I received the Adepi Award 2022 for my contribution to shaping the interpretation of IP law in Europe.

Having trained and previously worked for Bird & Bird, I re-joined as Of Counsel in 2019.
