Joss Hargrave

I am a partner in, and Co-Head of, our Finance & Financial Regulation Group here at Bird & Bird in London and I am also Co-Head of our International Restructuring & Insolvency Group.

On the finance side, I advise lenders and borrowers on transactions ranging from acquisition finance, sports finance and real estate finance to asset-based lending. Football finance in particular is a strong specialism and I act for various banks and clubs on cross border and domestic transfer and media financings.

On the restructuring & insolvency side, I advise banks, funds, insolvency practitioners, distressed corporates, directors and creditors (secured and unsecured) on a wide variety of situations including financial restructurings and formal insolvency procedures. Particular areas of expertise are in distressed situations in the retail and aviation sectors.

• Macquarie Bank: advising on a loan to a top-flight German Football Club secured against the Club's media rights monies payable from the Bundesliga (German football league) for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 football seasons.
• Macquarie Bank: advising on a loan to an English Premier League Football Club secured against the Club's media rights monies payable from the English Premier League for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 football seasons.
• Macquarie Bank: advising on a loan to Brazilian borrower, a sugar producer (and guaranteed by various Brazilian entities) in relation to financing the export of sugar from Brazil to a Swiss commodities importer.
• Punjab National Bank: advising the administrators in London and Italy in relation to the administration of Techtrek UK Limited and, in particular, in relation to a dispute relating to the shares in Memar, an Italian subsidiary. Punjab National Bank is the lender in this matter.
