International law firm Bird & Bird welcomes renewables specialist Dorota Derlicka as a new partner in its international Energy & Utilities Group in Poland. She joined the firm on 1 September.
Dorota has extensive experience advising public and private sector clients on their renewables and nuclear energy projects. Her renewable energy practice encompasses onshore wind, photovoltaic, battery energy storage systems (BESS), biogas projects, and includes representing clients before the Energy Regulatory Office in grid connection disputes.
She manages all stages of the investment process from planning and permitting to operations, and supports mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, and facilitation asset rotation to enhance client portfolios. Dorota also leads legal projects in the energy and industrial sectors, addressing energy, environmental, and construction law aspects to support complex investments.
Dorota’s arrival represents ambitious growth in the international Commercial Group, following the firm also welcoming Claudio Mereu and Natalie Konings in Brussels this week.
Dr. Matthias Lang, head of the Energy & Utilities Sector Group at Bird & Bird, commented: “With renewables and nuclear energy being pivotal elements of Poland's long-term energy strategy, Dorota’s skills and experience position her as a key asset in further strengthening our position in this sector. Her unique combination of legal and technical expertise, an extensive industry network, as well as the renaissance in nuclear energy projects – both in Poland and internationally, makes her a great asset to clients in this rapidly evolving market.”
Marta Koremba and Rafal Dziedzic, co-heads of Bird & Bird’s Poland office, said: “Dorota’s experience serving as in-house counsel during the initial phase of Poland’s first nuclear power plant development, as well as being involved in multiple renewable energy projects throughout the region, greatly complements the strengths of the existing team in Poland. Given the region’s energy market is shaped by regulatory changes, a commitment to clean energy transitions, and advancements in renewable energy and storage technologies, Dorota’s skills align well within this priority sector.”
Dorota adds: “I’m thrilled to join such a strong team at Bird & Bird and to leverage my cross-disciplinary expertise, contributing towards driving the strategic initiatives in the Energy & Utilities sector. It’s an exciting sector to be in and I very much look forward to collaborating with the wider team, both in Poland and internationally, to support clients in their complex energy matters.”
