Bird & Bird boosts London Tech & Comms team with new partner Gordon Moir

International law firm Bird & Bird strengthens its team in London with the hire of telecoms, regulatory and media expert Gordon Moir as a partner in its Tech & Comms team.

Gordon joined the firm on 28 January alongside his team, including legal director Marcus Bagnall (who starts on 16 Feb).

Gordon is an internationally recognised expert in telecoms, regulatory and anti-trust matters, with over 25 years’ experience in the sector, covering both his senior and executive in-house and private practice roles. His practice spans telecoms, regulatory, anti-trust and strategic advisory work, supporting clients on complex issues in market access and regulation of next generation telecoms services.

He also advises on the specific data protection, interception, and complex cross border issues that telecoms companies must consider, in addition to his extensive expertise in the legal frameworks impacting the creation and use of content broadcasting. He is the first port of call for international organisations looking to expand their geographical footprints or facing roadblocks to such expansions.

Having advised telecoms and industry bodies on several significant competition law cases, at both a UK and European level, Gordon is also highly experienced in competition law and looks forward to working closely with our Competition team in developing that practice.

Ronald Hendrikx, Co-head of Bird & Bird’s international Tech & Comms Group, said: “Gordon’s market-leading reputation for telecoms regulatory and strategic advisory work makes him a natural fit to build on the existing strength of our global Tech & Comms Group. He brings a mix of expert legal advice and significant industry experience, allowing him to give our clients informed advice in a real-world context.”

Phil Sherrell, Head of Bird & Bird’s London office, commented: “Gordon’s focus on the telecoms market, particularly in regulatory, data protection and competition, fits well with our market-leading telecoms expertise spanning several of our practice areas. He will be a huge asset to our teams in London and internationally, and I wish him a very warm welcome to the firm.”

Gordon Moir adds: “I’m excited by the opportunities presented through being part of such an international and truly connected firm. Bird & Bird is renowned for its Tech & Comms work, and I’m delighted to bring my regulatory and strategic advisory experience to such a strong telecoms team.  Bird and Bird is a truly natural home for my team and the clients we support.”
