Benjamin McDermott

I am a lawyer in our Media, Entertainment & Sports group in Sydney.

My unique combination of experience working in private practice, the not-for-profit sector and the arts enables me to assist a variety of clients to reach creative solutions to complex and novel problems. When assisting clients in transactional matters, I value a collaborative approach to ensure that the outcome achieved meets the client's needs. For clients involved in disputes, I enjoy understanding the finer details of the dispute and driving the matter toward a harmonious resolution.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I worked at a top-ranked Australasian boutique entertainment law firm, peak Australian copyright law bodies and as a session guitarist. I have also held positions on the management committee of the Copyright Society of Australia.

I hold degrees in music, arts and law and have published articles, reviewed publications and interviewed on copyright & related rights. I continue to research and contribute to articles on corporate law and copyright & related rights.
