Julien Colson

I am a senior associate in the Tax department of our Brussels office, where I advise Belgian and international clients on corporate tax matters with a strong focus on transactional work, particularly in the real estate sector.

My practice covers the full tax dimension of M&A and restructuring projects, including the accounting and tax treatment of complex transactions.

In addition to my transactional practice, I have extensive experience in corporate income tax more broadly, including tax compliance (such as corporate income tax and withholding tax filings), dividend taxation (both inbound and outbound), the taxation of income derived from IT software and payment solutions, withholding tax matters, as well as the tax treatment and implementation of stock option plans. I also regularly assist clients with tax audits, advance ruling procedures and represent them before the tax authorities and courts.

Before joining Bird & Bird in 2022, I spent four years in the tax departments of Big Four firms, advising Belgian and international groups on a wide range of corporate tax issues and supporting them with due diligence and ruling requests. Prior to that, I worked for six years as a lawyer in a Belgian law firm, advising clients on all aspects of tax law and providing comprehensive assistance in tax disputes.
