I'm a partner in our Intellectual Property Group. Having studied physics at university, I'm fascinated by technology and the way in which it is reshaping our world.
Working at the intersection between copyright, trade secrets, contracts, regulation, and data, I support clients with the development, deployment, and commercialisation of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and act for clients in disputes relating to AI, data licensing and web scraping. I was named one of Global Data Review's worldwide '40 under 40' upcoming data lawyers in 2021 and in 2024 Chambers named me a Global Market Leader in AI.
I have a strong background in patent disputes where my experience has covered everything high-tech from semiconductor fabrication and layout to analogue and digital electronics, flash memory, communication protocols and equipment, operating systems, software, AI, IoT and video coding. My broader patent practice covers mechanical engineering, consumer products and medical devices and I have worked with clients in a wide range of sectors, including telecommunications, consumer electronics, online business, financial services, aviation, automotive and oil & gas. JUVE Patent named me one of their "Ones to Watch UK" for 2024.
I am a member of the UK Council of AIPPI and the AIPPI Standing Committee on Digital Economy. I am also the co-author of the UK chapter of Thomson Reuters' Trade Secrets Throughout the World and the author of the UK chapter of Kluwer's Law of Raw Data.
I have a particular focus on the regulation of AI under the EU AI Act and IoT devices under the EU Data Act. As part of my broader practice, I also advise manufacturers, importers and distributors on product safety legislation and standards affecting product design, manufacture, testing, marking and labelling and environmental legislation covering the disposal of products. My experience covers UKCA/CE marking, batteries legislation, RoHS, WEEE and EMC.
