I am a partner in our Commercial, Privacy & Data Protection and Regulatory & Administrative Groups in The Hague.
I have over 15 years' experience advising clients on data protection and regulatory issues. My focus is on national and international data protection and regulation matters and projects advising clients on compliance with the GDPR and other privacy rules and on strategic issues relating to digitization and new and innovative technologies such as AI and blockchain, in particular in technology and communications, media, and life sciences and healthcare.
I also provide DPO services to a number of large multinationals which gives me a good insight in the challenges of implementing a robust data protection framework and ways to deal with these challenges. Furthermore, I have ample experience assisting clients in discussions with supervisory authorities and other stakeholders including litigation against fines and other sanctions.
I have a strong regulatory background in the telecommunications and media sector and have worked as a legal expert at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). This is also a field of work in which I still regularly advise clients on issues inter alia relating to network access, content regulation and consumer protection, and/or assist them in litigation and/or regulatory sanction proceedings.
In addition to my work as attorney, I am a co-editor of the leading legal journal 'Computerrecht', a guest lecturer at the Institute of Information Law (University of Amsterdam) and author of the book Public Dimensions of Private Communications ('Publieke dimensies van Privé-Communicatie') which was also the topic of my PhD. I regularly publish articles and give presentations on various subjects in my fields of expertise.
I am an active member of various Dutch law associations, including the Association for Privacy Lawyers (VPR-A), the Association for Media and Communication Law (VMC), and the Association for Information Technology and Law (NVvIR).
