Bird & Bird's competition compliance toolkit wins Concurrences Antitrust Compliance Award

Out of 19 submissions by magic circle, US and international law firms, Bird & Bird's  Competition Compliance toolkit was chosen as the winner in the Law Firm category of the 2021 Concurrences Antitrust Compliance Awards.

The announcement was made on May 10th at the virtual Awards Ceremony, where co-heads of our Competition & EU group Pauline Kuipers and Morten Nissen received the award in the presence of the Jury Members and nominees.

Bird & Bird’s Compliance Toolkit comprises 4 competition eLearning modules, a free Dawn Raid app, a free Dawn Raid Game and the recently launched Dawn Raid Management tool created in cooperation with safeREACH. It received praise for its innovative and engaging tools that help in-house counsel and compliance officers avoid pitfalls under competition law and steer them through dawn raid investigations.

Pauline Kuipers said “Having a distinguished jury led by Antitrust Ethics and Compliance expert Anne Riley select our compliance toolkit as the best that international law firms have on offer is such an honour. It is a great recognition of our team's efforts to help clients avoid competition law pitfalls and to steer them through the storms of surprise investigations.”

Morten Nissen added “Creating the toolkit has been a true team effort, with so many of our talented competition experts putting lots of energy into creating something that is not only original, but also practical and entertaining.”

Bird & Bird's CEO David Kerr said “Our firm believes in developing legal tech solutions to make life easier for our clients. It’s great to see our efforts in this space being recognised by such a reputed organisation as Concurrences.”

About the Concurrences Antitrust Compliance Awards

The Concurrences Antitrust Compliance Awards is a global summit dedicated to promoting antitrust compliance. It is an annual event that brings together five stakeholders: enforcers, academics, corporations, law firms, forensics and legal techs all of which were invited to submit their compliance initiatives.

The event programme consisted of four webinars from January to April 2021 and the Awards Ceremony on May 10, 2021.

More than 25 competition agencies worldwide and 15 global corporations (AB InBev, BNP Paribas, CMA CGM, ExxonMobil, Google, HSBC, Maersk, NewsCorp, Qualcomm, Saint Gobain, Shell, Unilever, Valeo…) submitted their compliance initiatives for this 2021 edition.

The Jury

The Awards Jury comprises the Board and 5 Steering Committees (the Agency, Academic, Corporation, Law Firm, and Legal Tech Steering Committees). Each of these contributes to the Awards selection process. The Editorial Committee of Concurrences selects the pool of all antitrust compliance initiatives accepted for nomination. The Steering Committees make a shortlist of the best initiatives and then the Board selects the award-winning initiatives.
