International law firm Bird & Bird welcomes Alexandra Mützelburg as a partner in the Energy & Utilities Sector in its Munich office on 1 February 2026. She joins alongside senior associate Anna Neumann, who will be transferring on 1 May 2026.
Alexandra joins from Fieldfisher and advises on the regulatory aspects of energy law, focusing primarily on project developers, financial investors, banks, insurers, and energy utilities. Her work covers the full spectrum of project business, from strategic and environmental planning through to the implementation of projects and energy trading.
She advises clients on the acquisition of infrastructure and energy projects, including battery storage systems, heat, hydrogen, bio-LNG, EV charging and alternative carbon capture, guiding them through every stage from securing public permits and managing grid connection matters, to negotiating infrastructure and project related agreements. Her expertise also covers navigating subsidy schemes, providing clients with supply/purchase, lease or tolling agreements, and energy management and optimiser agreements.
Another key area is the strategic development and implementation of energy hubs as decentral sector-coupled projects in the field of renewable energy, heat, battery storage and hydrogen, taking into account the dynamic changes in the regulatory framework for energy supply, trade and emissions trading.
Alexandra’s arrival represents strategic growth of Bird & Bird Germany, building on the momentum of last month’s hires of Heiko Heppner and Clemens Maschke in Frankfurt. Together, these additions strengthen the firm’s capabilities across key practices and sectors, further solidifying Bird & Bird’s position as a leading legal advisor in the region.
Dr. Matthias Lang, head of the international Energy & Utilities Sector Group, says: “We are delighted to welcome Alexandra, another recognised expert in the energy sector, to our Munich office. Her extensive experience in the fields of renewable energy, battery storage and sector coupling also for decentralised energy projects will further strengthen our energy sector advisory offering, both nationally and internationally. Given the dynamic developments and challenges in the energy regulatory environment and the necessity for secure power generation and trading in Germany, her and also Anna’s expertise is a real asset for our clients and our team.”
