Bird & Bird boosts Warsaw Commercial team with double partner hire

International law firm Bird & Bird strengthens its Commercial team in Warsaw with the appointment of two new partners: contracts and consumer law specialist Krzysztof Zięba and IT and commercial law expert Michał Kulesza.

Krzysztof Zięba

Krzysztof advises clients across a broad range of sectors, including retail, FMCG, food, chemicals, cosmetics, electronics, media and automotive, on commercial, consumer, trade, e-commerce and distribution law. With strong expertise in supply chain operations, he specialises in drafting and negotiating key commercial agreements such as retail, franchise, selective distribution, logistics, licensing, and marketing agreements.

Krzysztof is also a trusted representative for clients in litigation and regulatory matters, particularly those involving advertising and contractual performance issues, such as product labelling, price presentation, greenwashing, and trade secret protection. He frequently represents clients before the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, in particular in consumer law and payment-related disputes.

Michał Kulesza

Michał is an experienced IT and commercial law expert with a strong track record advising leading clients across the technology and regulated financial sectors. He focuses on regulatory and contractual matters at the intersection of law, technology and risk — including DORA and Polish Financial Supervision Authority (UKNF) guidelines, cybersecurity, digitalisation, cloud computing, outsourcing and FinTech. He supports clients on high-value IT transactions and transformation programmes, including implementation projects, as well as licensing, maintenance, service, outsourcing and cloud agreements (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS), translating complex technical and regulatory requirements into clear and enforceable legal solutions.

He also advises on significant IT undertakings in Poland, such as data centre projects and large-scale cloud implementations for banks, insurers, investment funds and healthcare entities, as well as clients in energy, critical infrastructure and telecommunications, with a growing focus on AI, cyber resilience and operational continuity.

Marta Koremba and Rafal Dziedzic, co-heads of Bird & Bird’s Poland office, comment: “We are delighted to welcome Krzysztof and Michał to our growing team in Poland - they bring exactly the kind of expertise that will further strengthen our Warsaw Commercial practice. Krzysztof’s extensive experience in retail, consumer, automotive and distribution aligns perfectly with industries that are strategically important to us, both in litigation and commercial advisory work. Michał’s deep understanding of IT architecture, project logic and regulatory frameworks will further bolster our cross-functional legal offering for complex technology projects in regulated sectors. His ability to bridge legal and technical teams ensures practical, scalable and enforceable solutions — particularly for cloud, outsourcing and cybersecurity-driven transformation of our clients.”

Krzysztof comments: “Bird & Bird’s global reach, strong market reputation in Retail & Consumer, and ambitious vision for growth across its practices and sectors align perfectly with my clients’ needs and my aspirations for developing my practice. I’m excited to contribute to such an innovative firm and collaborate with talented colleagues to deliver tailored, solutions-focused outcomes on both a local and international scale.”

Michał adds: “Bird & Bird’s collaborative culture and international platform provide a great opportunity to further develop my practice in a truly strategic area of the market. I’m particularly excited to contribute to the continued growth of the Tech & Comms team in Poland, and to take on the role of Head of the team in Poland, working alongside such talented colleagues in a truly forward-thinking sector. We are already recognised as a Band 1 team in FinTech and building on that position we want to further strengthen our presence and market leadership in the wider technology and regulated sectors. With AI, cyber resilience and DORA becoming foundational across industries, this is the right moment to scale our ambition and support clients on complex, cross-jurisdictional transformation projects at the highest level. Bird & Bird’s commitment to fostering learning, collaboration, and delivering the highest standard of service resonates with me deeply, and I’m eager to be a part of the firm’s innovative and client-focused approach.”
