As a lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, I focus on technology transactions, data protection and copyright work. Clients value my experience, particularly my critical examination of the economic background of their issues that leads to solution-oriented, balanced and pragmatic advice.
My experience is based on negotiating highly complex contracts, as well as creating samples and preparing expert opinions on complex legal issues. In most cases, my advice is not limited to legal aspects; clients value my approach to their affairs from all conceivable angles.
I represent customers of IT services as well as service providers from the IT sector. This gives me an understanding of both sides, which often enables me to propose solutions in actually or seemingly unsolvable situations. If in a particular case conflicts cannot be resolved by negotiation, I also represent my clients in court.
My work also focuses on the financial sector more broadly. In this field I support banks, financial service providers and their suppliers in connection with their IT procurement, IT outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO) projects as well as the implementation of their respective digitisation strategies.
Since I have been engaged in IT issues, I also deal with data protection. I advise in particular on the cross-border issues of payment transaction providers, travel service providers and airlines, as well as companies in the healthcare sector.
Having advised on software, database and e-commerce projects, as well as IT-related copyright, the legal questions that digitalisation raises in many areas falls under my expertise.
I regularly publish articles and give lectures on IT copyright law, cloud computing, outsourcing, IT contract law and data protection law. Amongst other things, I published the handbook on cloud computing 'Niemann/Paul' together with Fabian Niemann.
I joined Bird & Bird in 2007. Prior to that, I was a partner in another prestigious international law firm.
