Bird & Bird advise Novo Nordisk Foundation as Denmark launches its first AI supercomputer

International law firm Bird & Bird advised the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Centre for AI Innovation on a project with NVIDIA to host a world leading AI supercomputer.

The AI supercomputer, named “Gefion” and powered by NVIDIA’s cutting-edge technology, was launched at an event in Copenhagen yesterday, where HM King Frederik X of Denmark, Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, and Nadia Carlsten, CEO of DCAI, symbolically turned the system “on”.

The Gefion supercomputer will accelerate innovation for quantum computing, energy, biology, and more both in Denmark and globally.

The Bird & Bird team in Denmark advising on the project comprised of lead partner Jan Ussing Andersen, supported by partners Julie Bak-Larsen, Morten Nissen, and Michael Gorm Madsen, as well as associates Sofie Kaae Antonisen, Anna Hatorp Hjortlund and Sophie Hein.

Lead partner Jan Ussing Andersen comments: "It has been a privilege to work on a project that will have a significant impact on the future of scientific research. We are proud and thrilled to have supported the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Centre for AI Innovation in building one of the world's most powerful AI supercomputers."

Gefion is aimed at developing a wider AI community alongside Denmark’s already strong position within life sciences and quantum computing.
