Bird & Bird advises Cheyne Capital on the acquisition of two Buxton Hotels with Champneys

International law firm Bird & Bird has advised global alternative investment fund manager Cheyne Capital, in partnership with Champneys, on the acquisition of Buxton Crescent Spa Hotel

Buxton Crescent has a heritage that stretches back centuries and is now a beautifully restored five-star, 81-bedroom hotel with a thermal spa. The acquisition also includes the Assembly Room conference centre and the nearby 36-bedroom Old Hall Hotel. Together, the two hotels are at the heart of Buxton, a historic spa town on the edge of the Peak District, benefitting from both strong leisure and corporate demand.

The acquisition of these hotels is part of a wider long term partnership between Cheyne Capital and Champneys to invest in the existing Champneys estate and also to fund new openings in the UK and overseas.

The Bird & Bird team was led by Jane Brassington (partner, Corporate), Matthew Vance (senior associate, Commercial), Will Holder (senior associate, Corporate) and Amy Donlevey (associate, Corporate).

Jane Brassington, Corporate Partner at Bird & Bird commented: “We are delighted to have advised Cheyne Capital on this acquisition, demonstrating Bird & Bird’s expertise in the Hotels, Hospitality & Leisure sector. It is exciting to have assisted Cheyne Capital to develop its partnership with Champneys by adding another world-class spa hotel to its portfolio."
