Bird & Bird hires industrials, infrastructure and transport expert Eleanor Kerslake as new partner

International law firm Bird & Bird today expands its Infrastructure Projects & Procurement Group (IPPG) with the appointment of Eleanor Kerslake as a partner in its London office.

Eleanor brings almost 20 years of experience across the infrastructure, defence, transport, and emergency services sectors, with clients including central government departments, public bodies, private sector contractors, and major financial institutions, both in the UK and internationally. Her expertise includes advising and drafting major and often novel public contracts, as well as delivering strategic advice on complex high-risk matters.

Having served as an elected Councillor in local government, Eleanor brings a unique perspective on the interface between the public and private sectors, and a deep understanding of the challenges and significance of local government.

Bird & Bird recently announced the merger of their international Infrastructure and Projects & Procurement Groups. Partners Stuart Cairns and Peter Jørgensen will lead the newly combined IPPG.

Stuart Cairns, co-head of Bird & Bird’s international Infrastructure, Projects & Procurement Group, comments: “We are delighted to make another excellent appointment to our newly merged Infrastructure Projects & Procurement Group. Building on the recent arrival of Public Law & Procurement expert Andrew Dean, we continue to grow our global projects offering, not just in London but across our extensive office network. The infrastructure landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by shifting ESG expectations, accelerating digital innovation, and tighter regulatory frameworks. As we continue to strengthen our position as a leading law firm advising businesses in a world being shaped by regulation, Eleanor’s deep sector knowledge will be a real asset to our clients.”

Phil Sherrell, head of Bird & Bird’s London office, said: “Eleanor’s extensive experience and insight into government makes her an invaluable addition to the team in the UK, where we are increasingly seeing projects across areas such as highways, nuclear, health, energy, and defence. Following the government's 10-year Infrastructure Strategy and commitment to investment, Eleanor’s appointment comes at a time of significant opportunity for our clients.”

Eleanor added: “Bird & Bird’s leading reputation as a firm advising on technology and regulatory matters provides a strong platform to serve clients who need advice on the delivery and funding of essential infrastructure during a period of rapid technological change, policy shifts, and infrastructure growth. I look forward to contributing to and developing this dynamic practice area.”
