International law firm Bird & Bird has once again achieved Mansfield Certification, marking the fourth consecutive year of recognition for its commitment to broadening diversity in leadership.
Run by Diversity Lab, an incubator for innovative ideas and solutions that ensures fair treatment, opportunity and access in law, the aim of the Mansfield Rule is to boost inclusivity, equal access and transparency in promotion processes and leadership roles. Certification is awarded to law firms who can demonstrate that they have considered a broader pool of talent, including at least 30% of candidates considered qualifying as underrepresented talent.
Bird & Bird first participated in in the UK pilot of the Mansfield Rule in 2021/2022 and has since continued to collaborate closely with Diversity Lab. The firm actively contributes to the initiative through regular knowledge sharing sessions with other firms and has embedded the principles of Mansfield with inclusive practices across its recruitment and promotion processes.
The latest certification reflects the firm’s successful participation in Mansfield Rule UK 4.0, which ran from July 2024 to July 2025.
Aylie Ewing, Chief People Officer at Bird & Bird said: “This certification once again underlines the way in which we have embedded inclusive practices across our recruitment and promotion processes within the firm. These practices are a vital part of our promise to deliver a world of possible for our people. Mansfield Rule UK 4.0 once again provides the opportunity for us to review our processes to ensure we’re on track to meet our ambition of being a diverse and inclusive workplace.”
Zoe Feller, Partner, London Management Team and Co-Chair of the London D&I Committee added: “We are proud that we were one of the first law firms to sign up to the Mansfield Rule UK in 2021, and that we have achieved certification for the fourth consecutive year. This initiative is one of the practical ways we’re working to create lasting change in the legal profession."
